The West Virginia University – Institute of Technology Annual Faculty Awards seek to honor outstanding faculty members who have demonstrated significant contributions to the student body, university, and community in the areas of:
- Teaching
- Scholarship
- Service

Purpose of the Faculty Awards
Teaching
The goal of the Teaching Award is to recognize developing or established patterns of distinguished teaching and/or exceptional innovation in teaching methods, course and curriculum design, and instructional tools.
Scholarship
The goal of the Scholarship Award is to recognize distinction in research, scholarship, or creative activity. (Hereafter, all references to "research" include scholarship and creative activity.) Distinction may be reflected in either a single recent achievement in research or an extended and still ongoing career of distinguished research.
Service
The goal of the Service Award is to recognize distinction in service to the university over the span of the last five years, including but not limited to committee work, departmental service, and service to one’s discipline or profession.
Nomination & Candidate Forms for the 2025 Faculty Awards
Faculty members must be nominated, and each nominated faculty member must then apply. Nomination and candidate forms are available in the Faculty Award Packages published by the faculty members of the Academic Awards Selection Committee.
Faculty Awards Selection Committee
The faculty members of the 2024-2025 Academic Awards Selection Committee will review the information received from nominators and candidates and select the three award recipients.

Faculty Awards Nomination & Application Submission Requirements
Nomination and application forms must be submitted to the Academic Awards Committee by the specified deadlines.
- Nomination Forms Deadline: Friday, February 28, 2025, at Noon
- Candidate Application Forms Deadline: Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 4:30 PM
A complete application packet must include:
- Candidate (Application) form
- Summary statement of qualifications for the award
- Recommendation letter from the faculty member’s supervisor
- Current curriculum vitae
- Student Evaluation of Instruction (SEI) for Fall courses of the current academic year (Teaching Award only)
Faculty Awards Recognition
Recipients of the awards will be recognized at the Fall Faculty and Staff Institute.
