They work in fast-paced business environments creating more efficient systems, insuring financial security and maintaining fiscally responsible practices. Accountants can be found in law enforcement providing essential expertise to bring down criminal activity. They are found in government and non-profit sectors helping craft policy and keep essential services running for all people.

Our accounting degree is designed to make graduates competitive in a variety of accounting positions. WVU Tech offers expert faculty and a variety of certifications to help students meet the needs of employers or continue their education.

Our faculty are experts in the field and offer a broad set of experiences from public, private, security and nonprofit industries. We work diligently to ensure that an education from WVU Tech places students on par with current industry standards.

Meaningful tracks of study

Guarantee your time and money are used to make your marketable in your chosen field. Our program offers tracks as:

  • Certified Fraud Examiners (CFE): The WVU Tech BS Accounting - Fraud Management Track and Certificate in Fraud Examination prepares students to take the CFE exam. The exam is sponsored by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Certified Examiners can work as Fraud Investigator, Fraud Examiner etc. either in the private sector or in the government organizations such as FBI, IRS and much more.

  • Certified Management Accountants (CMA): Upon completion of our BS Accounting Program, students are eligible to take the CMA exam. This exam is sponsored by the Institute of Management Accountants. The certified Management Accountants analyze operations and costs to find ways to improve operations and product quality while reducing costs. Accountants with this certification work in private industry, hospitals, and government organizations.

  • Certified Public Accountants (CPA): After completing an additional 22 credit hours (over and above 128 credit hours needed for the BS in Accounting) students may minor in Fraud Examination / Finance or take graduate level courses to become eligible to take the CPA exam. This exam is sponsored by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Certified Public Accountants perform a broad range of accounting, auditing, information technology services, tax, and consulting activities for corporations, governments, nonprofit organizations or individuals.

  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA): After completing the BS-Accounting Program, students are eligible to take the CIA exam. This exam is sponsored by the Institute of Internal Auditors. Certified Internal Auditors work for private and public companies, hospitals, non-profit organizations, and government organizations. They examine and evaluate their firm’s financial and information systems, management procedures, and internal controls to ensure that records are accurate and controls are adequate.

  • Enrolled Agent (EA): After completing our BS-Accounting Program, students are eligible to sit for the EA exam. Enrolled agents are the federally authorized tax practitioners and can represent taxpayers before the IRS. This exam is sponsored by the National Association of Tax Practitioners.

WVU Tech graduates leave our campus with knowledge and skill sets that can take them across the state, the nation and the world. Our faculty offer instruction in accounting systems with an emphasis on the fundamentals of data processing, information systems analysis and the computer systems that make it possible. Students also get hands-on experience in advanced cost management. Working with their professors, accounting majors study evaluation, management and cost measurement concepts and techniques. Special emphasis is also offered to students pursuing their CPA. WVU Tech offers accounting majors a survey of commercial and regulatory laws to build a foundation of good professional judgement and accounting practice.
