WVU Tech Athletic Hall of Fame inductees announced

Beckley, W.Va. – As part of their Homecoming celebrations, West Virginia University Institute of Technology has announced its newest class of Golden Bear Athletic Hall of Fame inductees for 2025.

This year’s inductees are  Michael Springston ’82, Scott Neal ’87, Gerardo Hernandez Nava ’10 and Tyler S. Fabian ’14.

Springston is being honored as an exemplary coach and administrator for WVU Tech athletics. He began his coaching career at Tech under Roy Lucas after a football injury ended his playing career. He went on to coach for over thirty years in high schools and colleges around the country.

Neal was the starting quarterback for the Golden Bears during the 1985-1986 season. He set the single season passing record in 1985 and won numerous awards for his football abilities. He currently works as a Lead Systems Engineer for Ground Based Air Defense in Virginia.

Nava, a native of Maracaibo, Venezuela, came to Tech to play baseball and left his mark as a standout player and winning various awards, including Most Valuable Player for the 2008 season and First Team All-Conference honors in 2009.

Fabian, originally from Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, came to Tech to play soccer from 2011-2014. He was captain of the team for three years and was on the National Championship team in 2013. He went on to play for the West Virginia Chaos and Panama City Pirates, and played professionally for the Philadelphia Fury and professional indoor soccer for the Harrisburg Heat.
