The annual WVU Day of Giving challenges alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of WVU Tech to donate to a variety of funds that impact all WVU Tech students. This year’s Day of Giving will take place on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. The 24-hour fundraising campaign is an opportunity for donors across the WVU system to support the departments and programs that matter most to them.

There are several funds WVU Tech is seeking donations for this year, including the William Benn Student Success Fund, the Golden Bear Athletics General Fund, and the Golden Bear Alumni Association General Fund. Donors are also encouraged to contribute to the general funds for the four schools on Tech’s campus: the School of Arts and Sciences, the Leonard C. Nelson School of Engineering, the School of Business, and the WVU School of Nursing – Beckley Campus.

This year, Tech is challenging donors to sign up for a recurring gift of $18.95 per month to celebrate the 130th anniversary of Tech’s founding in 1895.

Director of Development Jonathan Grose says the support for Tech on Day of Giving goes beyond financial contributions.

“When you give to WVU Tech, you’re helping us take care of our students — from keeping them in school to supporting their next big idea. This year, to celebrate 130 years of WVU Tech, we’re asking donors to sign up for a recurring gift of $18.95 a month to help shape the future for our Golden Bears,” Grose says.

The William “Bill” Benn Student Success Fund honors the legacy of Golden Bear veteran Bill Benn. Benn was a student at WVU Tech in the 1960s but had to take a hiatus from his studies due to financial concerns. He tragically lost his life in Vietnam before he was able to complete his degree. Donations to this fund will continue to help bridge the financial gap for current and future Golden Bears working toward graduation.

Donations to the Golden Bear Athletics General Fund will help support student-athletes across Tech’s 18 athletic teams.

The Tech Golden Bear Alumni Association General Fund supports the Tech Golden Bear Alumni Association (TGBAA), which helps pay it forward for future Golden Bears. TGBAA provides support for student needs, scholarships, mentorship programs, and a variety of campus activities that benefit both students and alumni.

Additionally, donors can give directly to each school’s general fund.

“At WVU Tech, we believe that if a student is great enough to be admitted, they are great enough to graduate. Every gift made during Day of Giving — whether to the Student Success Fund, the General Fund, Athletics, or the Alumni Fund — helps ensure our Golden Bears have the resources, support, and opportunities they need to persist to graduation and go on to make a difference as proud WVU Tech alumni,” says T. Ramon Stuart, Ph.D., President of WVU Tech.

Donating to WVU Tech on WVU Day of Giving also unlocks several fundraising challenges that boost donor gifts. These challenges come with additional funding, meaning that if certain goals are met, Tech receives even more support.
